About Rebecca:

My husband and I joke that she is our "third baby". We have two real children, ages 2 and 4. Indeed, writing BODY KINDNESS has been a labor of love for the last few years of my life.

It's very personal and important work. Too many of us have suffered at the relentless pressure to diet and strive for a perfect body. There was a time when I thought weight loss pursuits were health pursuits. Life experience and scientific research taught me otherwise.

Now, I'm dedicated to creating a world where we respect all bodies just as they are. For those of us who are health experts, we need to get back into caring for the whole person. We need to support the behavior and not the scale. We need more love and empathy and a lot less shame.

There is a better way to a healthy well-being. I believe Body Kindness is it. When I'm not passionately fighting diet culture, I am probably exercising, cooking with my girls, reading, or dreaming about a beach vacation.

About May:

I was born in the Indian state of Kerala, locally known as “God’s Own Country” and named by National Geographic Traveler as one of the “ten paradises in the world” because of its natural beauty, tropical climate and varied topography. In Kerala, recognized as the spice center of the world, my family are spice merchants of Syrian Christian descent. Growing up in India, I was always fascinated by the diversity of cultures in America and had an American Dream of my own:  to come to the United States and build my life here.

To prepare, I studied Mathematics and Computer Science (ultimately, earning a Master’s Degree).  I was hired as a knowledge engineer, brought to the United States and became an executive in the financial industry. Throughout my professional endeavors, I maintained my fascination with cultural diversity always centered around food, particularly the spices associated with my family and its spice estates. Coming from a tradition where fresh foods are prepared in seasonally appropriate, wholesome and gourmet manners,

I wanted to share that wisdom with my friends in the West. In search of different cuisines, I received hands-on training sessions with well-known chefs and other top culinary professionals from around the world.  My son has food allergy issues and, after I realized that processed foods were the root cause of his health issues, I researched and endeavored to make all food in a non-processed way. As a result, I have seen a significant improvement in his health and I am thrilled that he can lead a very active and normal life.

About Simone:

Simone Miller first set foot on the culinary scene two decades ago but her passion for extraordinary food stems back to early childhood, where she began to learn from one of the best kitchens in America – her mother’s.  Miller pursued her passion and began to fine tune her skills working in top New York and Connecticut area-restaurants.  In 2007, Miller relocated to San Francisco, where she continued to develop her distinct style and build her career as a personal chef while simultaneously launching a catering company (Zenbelly).  Upon the success of Zenbelly, Miller soon developed a reputation as an elite gourmet chef.

After having battled with a variety of health problems following the launch of Zenbelly, Miller discovered she had food allergies, specifically a very serious sensitivity to gluten. Ethically, Miller would not serve food – without first being a test subject-  and at that point, Zenbelly transformed into one of the most respected gluten-free, paleo-style catering company in the Bay Area.  Miller’s mission was simple: to offer healthy alternatives without sacrifice to quality and flavor.  Miller diligently worked on adapting her gourmet recipes and much to her delight – she found great success and her palate-pleasing recipes soon impressed the most discriminating of tastes.

Miller also augmented her website offering chef’s perspective to paleo recipes on her blog. There, she shares her grain-free recipes that have made believers out of some of the most die-hard gluten eaters, and has encouraged countless people to roll up their sleeves and have fun creating simple, delicious, healthy food.

In 2014, Miller released her first and very successful cookbook, The Zenbelly Cookbook, shortly thereafter, she co-authored The New Yiddish Kitchen, which hit shelves in March of 2016.  Her third book, Paleo Soups & Stews, released in October 2016 is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

About Wired To Eat:

Wired To Eat explains how more willpower and better discipline are not the missing pieces to health and fat loss. Our genetics are working against us in the modern world of super tasty foods. In this new book you will learn about neuroregulation of appetite and how hyperpalatable foods can bypass our built in “off switch”, causing us to eat far more than we otherwise would. The genes that made our ancestors successful are setting us up for troubles today. You will learn how sleep, gut health, stress, exercise and community can work with or against our goals of health and leanness.

With Wired To Eat you’ll embark on a program to rewire your appetite and regain your health. We will start with a 30 Day Reset that will normalize the neuroregulation of appetite and help us not only to eat the right amount, but also begin to appreciate simple but delicious meals. After the 30 Day Reset we will use the 7 Day Carb Test to map what specific carbohydrate foods we do best (and worst) with. This will move us beyond one-size-fits-all dietary dogma and into the modern world of Personalized Nutrition.

Wired To Eat includes over 60 whole-food recipes and includes meal plans for the 30 Day Reset as well as for autoimmune and ketogenic diets.

About Mel:

Melissa Joulwan is the author of the best-selling Well Fed cookbook series and the blog www.MelJoulwan.com, where she writes about her triumphs and failures in the gym, in the kitchen, and in life. Her newest cookbook is Well Fed Weeknights: Complete Paleo Meals in 45 Minutes Or Less.

After a lifetime of yo-yo dieting and food as the enemy, Melissa found the paleo diet in 2009 and has been happily following it ever since. That year, she also underwent a thyroidectomy. In the aftermath of the surgery and recovery, she became particularly interested in how diet affects hormones, body composition, mood, and motivation. These days, Melissa’s workouts are just as likely to include yoga and meditation as lifting heavy things and sprinting to stay ahead of the stopwatch.

Well Fed 2 was named one of the best books of 2013 by Amazon.com and was a Washington Post best seller. Her first cookbook Well Fed appeared on the Wall Street Journal best sellers list, and she’s the author of the recipes in the New York Times bestselling book It Starts With Food by Melissa and Dallas Hartwig.

She writes a column for Paleo Magazine and her recipes have been featured in print in Low Sugar Living, Inspire Health, and Where Women Cook, and online at Buzzfeed.com, FoodNetwork.com, Nylon.com, PopSugar.com, and Men’s Journal. She has been a featured chef for U.S. Wellness Meats and Lava Lake Lamb, as well as an instructor at Whole Foods.
